Winter Recommendations

A winter getaway at Big Powderhorn Mountain is what dreams are made of. A majestic mountain, fresh fallen powder, and various runs to keep you and your friends or family enjoying the thrill of the slopes all day. And nothing should stop you from living your best ski vacation life, especially not being underprepared.

Here are our tips to keep you safe out on the hill:

  • If you use any medications like an inhaler or insulin, remember to carry them on you in case of need.
  • If you are new to winter sports, consider taking a lesson with our Snow Sports School. Our instructors will teach you more in one hour than you will in a whole day alone, allowing you to have more fun on the slopes!
  • Dress properly and in layers. Avoid cotton in the winter, as moisture can increase heat loss. Keep your feet warm with wool socks and mittens kept snug at the wrist work better than gloves. Pack extra clothes and stay dry.
  • Protect your eyes with goggles and layer a hat with your helmet – you lose most of your body heat through your head!
  • Know the symptoms of cold stress so you can stop it in its tracks! (Reddening skin, tingling pain, swelling, leg cramps, numbness, blisters.)
  • Use well maintained equipment, if you do not have your own our rental department is available for your use.
